WEST SPRINGFIELD — West Springfield is hoping that people who visit the Town Common this August will bring their families and their appetites as the town launches its inaugural Food Truck Friday series. The series is organized by Mayor Will Reichelt’s office.
Mayor’s Office Chief of Operations Carly Camossi-LaPalme said Reichelt was interested in providing more family-friendly summer activities for residents.
“The idea came from many residents inquiring about such an event along with a desire to create engaging, accessible community events downtown,” said Camossi-LaPalme. “We decided to give it a try and see if residents would participate.”
Starting Aug. 8, each Friday of the month will feature three or four food trucks, and some craft vendors, set up on the Town Common, 125 Park St., from 4-9 p.m. Camossi-LaPalme said there would be a rotating lineup of trucks featuring different flavors, from savory food to sweet desserts. The series offers residents a chance to support area businesses as the food trucks are all local to West Springfield and the surrounding towns, Camossi-LaPalme said. The list of vendors will be released each week. The food trucks must be issued permits by the town to participate.
The series is sponsored by Titan Fence. “Owners Jesse Cummings & Cam Marcil take great pride in West Springfield and are excited to help us put on this fantastic community event throughout the month of August,” the town said in a Facebook post publicizing the events.
“We’re expecting a good turnout,” said Camossi-LaPalme. Parking is available across the street at the Council on Aging, 128 Park St., at Coburn School, 115 Southworth St, and at the municipal lot on Central Street.
Camossi-LaPalme added, “If successful, we plan to bring it back next year.”
