AGAWAM — The Agawam Junior Women’s Club will be hosting its annual spring festival on Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at School Street Park on School Street.

The organization said it would be easiest for guests to enter the event on Corey Street and not School Street.

The event will feature around 70 vendors as well as food trucks, raffles, games for kids, a live band and fun for the whole family.

Agawam Junior Women’s Club Publicity Coordinator Kamila O’Neill said, “This is just to have the community come together and just kind of hang out, have fun, have a nice day, support each other.”

Each vendor is also asked to donate an item for the raffle and O’Neill stated, “It actually becomes a pretty large raffle and it’s really fun.”

The event is free for everyone to attend, and the raffle serves as a fundraising opportunity for the Agawam Junior Women’s Club.

The club is apart of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, which is a community service organization who “are committed to the betterment of our community through special projects supporting the arts, natural resources, education, healthy lifestyles, international causes and civic involvement,” according to their mission.

The funds raised at this event are used throughout the year for a couple of things, O’Neill explained.

The first item the funds raised are used for is giving scholarships to graduating seniors from towns the members are residents of.

“The amount of scholarships, it varies by the funds that we have, but we try to give out one or two scholarships each year,” O’Neill said.
Another item the funds are used for is during the holiday season for holiday baskets.

The organization gives gift cards to places like a local food market or clothing store. O’Neill said the club has given out gift cards or baskets to around 30 families.

“It’s just a way we help out during the holiday season,” O’Neill stated.

Those are the two primary items the funds are used for that are raised at the spring festival, but O’Neill said the club also donates money to local organizations or charities like the women’s shelter.

The Agawam Junior Women’s Club offer support in many different areas including the environment, domestic violence, women’s shelters, veterans and education.

“For a little club we do a lot,” O’Neill said, “We do all this through small projects that we do in the town as well as donations and we always are looking for more members. We’d love to grow.”
