HOLYOKE — The colder weather is not stopping the Holyoke Farmer’s Market from continuing to allow vendors and businesses to sell their product to local residents.
The Holyoke Winter Farmers Market has been running from November through March and is being hosted twice a week, giving local residents an opportunity to support small businesses and enjoy seasonal products.
The market takes place every Tuesday at the Holyoke Senior Center, 291 Pine St., from 9 a.m. to noon and every Wednesday at the Holyoke YMCA, 171 Pine St., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Farmers Market Manager Alexis Diaz said that at the market, visitors can find a wide selection of farm-fresh produce, including winter squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, cabbage, lettuce and more.
Local vendor DR Farms offers a range of products, from fresh vegetables to honey and garlic, all grown right in the surrounding area.
In addition to produce, the market features The Bread Basket, offering an assortment of breads, pies, and other baked treats.
For mushroom lovers, Living Stone Mycology showcases a variety of fresh mushrooms and herbal tinctures.
The market also features an impressive collection of handmade crafts, making it the perfect place to find unique, locally made goods.
Besides offering various amounts of produce and goods, Diaz talked more about the overall positive impact of the Winter Farmers Market.
Diaz explained, “The Winter Farmer’s Market offers more than just fresh food, it fosters a sense of community, bringing together neighbors, artisans, and farmers in a welcoming environment. It’s an opportunity to shop locally, support small businesses, and enjoy high-quality products that may be harder to find in larger stores. Whether you’re looking for fresh produce or a delicious homemade treat, the Winter Farmer’s Market has something for everyone.”
Visitors are encouraged to bring reusable bags, dress warmly and enjoy the winter market experience.
The YMCA offers a welcoming environment for shoppers of all ages, encouraging community engagement and supporting local farmers and vendors and CEO Conor Bevan talked more about the farmer’s market using the space.
He said, “For more than 138 years, Greater Holyoke YMCA has remained the epicenter of health and wellness for all in our community. As the host site for the Holyoke Farmers Market, we are excited to increase access to affordable, healthy and nutritious foods while also offering additional wraparound health and wellness services.”
The market will also feature special events and educational activities focused on nutrition and healthy living.
Diaz said he is excited to bring the farmers market to the YMCA this winter and talked further about being able to continue providing fresh and affordable produce during the winter months.
He said, “This location will provide fresh produce and create a welcoming space for everyone to connect and support our local economy.”
