CHICOPEE — The city of Chicopee and Style and Grace Hair Studio hosted a ribbon cutting to introduce its new location at 104 Lauzier Terr.

Style and Grace Hair Studio is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

While walk-ins are welcome, Style and Garce Hair Studio owner Ruben Camacho said he recommends making appointments for a “timely service.”

Readers can book appointments or check out the barbers and services offered at saghs.biz.

Camacho said that they are predominantly a barbershop but are “working towards” doing more salon and barber work.

His goal is to bring back the real essence of barbering. He explained, “Growing up, the barbershop used to be a place where young boys could just talk to men who aren’t just people in their family, you know, people who are comfortable and just learning just how to communicate and step out of their comfort zone.”

Camacho’s first job was working in a barbershop, sweeping up the hair, and stated, “I’m just trying to bring that community feel back into the barbershop. This is a big step to me. I’m excited to be here and to be here for many years.”

While sweeping at the barbershop, Camacho said he would see his uncle and the other guys cut hair, they would teach him little by little and eventually led him to start cutting hair at 13 years old.

“I got my first pair of clippers for Christmas when I was 13 and I just kept going,” Camacho said, “I feel like a barber’s who I am, not just what I do.”

Now Camacho has his own business with other barbers in the shop.

He also discussed the name of the hair studio and said, “Honestly, I feel like my business was given to me by the grace of God. This is his business, I just steward it.”

Many of Camacho’s friends and families were at the event as well as Chicopee stakeholders, representatives from the state government and Mayor John Vieau and his office.

Camacho said, “It was great to see all the support. There was a lot of people who showed up, a lot of people from my church, a lot of family and friends were here, so it was exciting to see that, to see all the support. It was overwhelming. I’m grateful. I feel blessed to have a great support system behind me.”

Vieau anticipates the business to be successful based on the location off of Memorial Drive and alluded to the fact that everyone needs haircuts.

Vieau stated, “If you invest in Chicopee, it will give back to you and I’m sure it will especially if you run a high-quality place like this. I think this is a fantastic location and Chicopee is behind you.”
