CHICOPEE — Chicopee kicked off the holiday season with its annual tree lighting on Dec. 5 at The Hub at Market Square.
The festivities began at 4:30 p.m. Mayor John Vieau, other elected officials and Santa joined together on the hub steps to light Chicopee’s tree at 5 p.m.
ChicopeeFresh was also at the event giving out free soup to combat the cold temperatures.
Following the tree lighting, guests were invited inside The Hub at Market Square to meet with Santa, enjoy some snacks and hot chocolate along with performances from local groups and organizations
Vieau had a message for all the residents and said, “I want to wish everyone a very safe, a very prosperous and healthy Christmas, holiday season and a New Year. Just know that many people out there are really having a hard time and if you have that ability to give a little bit to someone, please take that time and do it. It is the time to take care of our neighbors in our community.”
