NORTHAMPTON — Grow Food Northampton’s Tuesday Market has returned for the spring and summer season, marking its 18th season in total and 10th season under the organization.

The market is located between Thornes Marketplace and the EJ Gare Parking Garage, and is open every Tuesday from 1-6 p.m. until the fall. Each week the market features over 30 farm, food and craft vendors and will feature musical acts during the season with a set rotation of musicians set to perform during the market’s season.

Products available at the market include fresh vegetables, meats, cheese, bread, maple, honey, flowers, plants, crafts and much more.

A new addition to this year’s market is the selling of craft beer after a new state law passed this year making it legal to do so. Abandoned Building Brewery of Easthampton will now be joining the market every other week providing beverages to market frequenters.

The market also offers a SNAP Match program, where shoppers enrolled in SNAP can have $10 of their benefits doubled each week through a match with the market. Those utilizing these benefits can visit the designated purple tent at the farmer’s market for their additional $10 through the match program.

Several vendors also accept Healthy Incentives Program, or HIP, the state based benefit which allows SNAP customers to purchase an extra $20 per month in fresh produce from local farmers.

“We have lots of great deals for folks with EBT cards,” Market Manager Helen Kahn told Reminder Publishing. “Last year I believe our SNAP Match with the winter market and Tuesday market totaled around $55,000, which is incredible when you think $10 at a time. It’s great obviously for the customers who are using EBT and then it goes right back to the farmers.”

Kahn added that some of the several new vendors this year will include Chase Hill Farm of Warwick, Hobbit Hollow Herbals of Huntington, Come by Bike Farm of West Hatfield, Dave’s Natural Garden of Granby and Vegan Pizza Land. A full list of all vendors and more information on the market can be found at tinyurl.com/5n8m3zxr.

Kahn said with the ongoing economic climate and reality, now is a time as important as ever to support farmers and local markets like Grow Food Northampton’s.

“It goes directly into our local economy and also it does cut down on medical bills and stuff like that because people are eating healthier,” Kahn said of the market’s impact on the community. “What’s nice is I also get a sense from the businesses downtown that they’re always excited to see the market come back because it does give a little boost on Tuesdays, and brings people downtown all spread out and around.”
