SPRINGFIELD — Government officials and other community members gathered on Dec. 3 to celebrate 6 Brick’s cannabis dispensary’s donation of $2,500 to the Patton Alliance for Veterans, a nonprofit organized by the descendants of famed WWI and WWII General George S. Patton Sr. and General George S. Patton Jr.

The money will help support programs that assist veterans through the Patton Alliance, according to Payton Shubrick, the founder and CEO of 6 Bricks.

“Today’s an exciting day because when we think about cannabis legalization when it started in 2016, we talked about opportunities for Massachusetts residents,” Shubrick said during the press conference on Dec. 3. “Today you have two families coming together and taking advantage of that opportunity.”

Robert “Bob” H. Patton is chairman and co-founder of Green Meadows, which, like 6 Brick’s, is a family-owned cannabis company in Massachusetts that produces cannabis and cannabis products, and has two dispensaries.

According to Patton, anytime a Green Meadows product was bought at 6 Bricks during the month of November, a portion of the proceeds was donated to the Patton Alliance for Veterans.

“We always do well as a cannabis business,” Patton said. “6 Brick’s does, Green Meadow does. But when we can, we also want to do good, and today’s an opportunity to do that.”

Also in attendance for the celebration of the 6 Brick’s donation were Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, Springfield City Councilor Melvin Edwards and state Rep. Carlos Gonzalez (D-Springfield), along with the rest of the Patton family.

In his remarks, Sarno emphasized the importance of cannabis’s availability for veterans who struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder and highlighted the importance of a partnership like 6 Brick’s and the Patton family to help make that happen.

“What better way to give back,” Sarno said. “I think this tells a positive story of when properly regulated, properly run, which Six Bricks and all our establishments do, how this can be helpful to individuals and families.”

The mission of the Patton Alliance for Veterans is to support the nation’s veterans through charitable donations, community service, and education on medical cannabis products that can improve their lives.

Two of the groups the Alliance supports include StopSoliderSuicide.org and the Black Veterans Project.
