SOUTHWICK — Southwick Cemetery hosted the 2025 Wreaths Across America ceremony on Dec. 13 to honor Southwick’s veterans, continuing a meaningful tradition of remembrance and gratitude.
Despite the cold temperatures and snowfall, dedicated volunteers came together to place nearly 600 wreaths on veteran grave markers throughout the cemetery.
“This was our third year participating in Wreaths Across America, but our first with snow on the ground,” said the town’s sexton, Lisa Anderson. “While the weather presented new challenges, our volunteers took their time and ensured every wreath was placed with care and respect. Through many generous donations and a team of volunteers, together, we accomplished our goal each year.”
Once again, local trucking company Haas Family Trucking and a dedicated team from Home Depot of Westfield volunteered their time and support, continuing their partnership with the cemetery. Their assistance has become an important part of the event’s success each year, Anderson said.
During the ceremony, symbolic wreaths representing each branch of the military were placed at the memorial by local town officials and military dignitaries, reinforcing the community’s shared commitment to honoring those who served.
Fundraising efforts are already underway for the 2026 event, as Wreaths Across America continues to grow as an annual tradition for Southwick’s veterans and the Southwick Cemetery.
Anderson said any community members interested in supporting next year’s ceremony are encouraged to get involved and help ensure this tradition continues for years to come.
