MONTGOMERY — The town election on May 4 saw a 45% voter turnout, with 229 ballots cast from the 640 registered to vote in Montgomery. The unofficial results are posted on the town website at montgomeryma.gov.
Town Clerk Cheryl Masciadrelli said due to the high number of write-in votes, and some questions regarding write-ins, official results are not yet available. Write-in votes figured in a close race for a three-year term on the Board of Selectmen, which had incumbent Michael Morrissey on the ballot and former Selectman Dan Jacques challenging him with a public write-in campaign. In the unofficial results, Morrissey was only barely ahead of Jacques, 103-101.
Also not yet official are the results for several offices where there were no candidates on the ballot, including Board of Assessors, tree warden, and two School Committee seats. Many different write-in candidates received votes for those seats.
Elected without opposition were Steven D. Pierce for moderator for one year with 205 votes; Christine Browns for library trustee for three years with 205 votes; and Julie Pike for trustee of the A.P. Pettis Fund for three years with 211 votes.
