HUNTINGTON — This summer, Dale Rogers, owner of the Gray Catbird Gift Shop and Pottery Studio on 22 East Main St. is expanding art class offerings beyond pottery, with some of the 63 artists and artisans featured in the gift shop offering their talents to the public with step-by-step instruction.
Among the offerings will be a class of seasonal floral design with Mary Cantler and Lydia King. Flowers will be provided, and students will take home a beautiful bouquet they’ve arranged themselves.
In Glass-fusing with Denise Beaulieu, students will create a “4 x 4” work of glass art in the class, all materials included.
Watercolor Painting with Dan Delisle will be offered in July and August in two classes — or sign up for all six. Paper and brushes will be provided; students must purchase their own paints.
After two classes of Pine-Needle Basket Weaving with Linda Briggs, all materials provided, students will weave their own small basket.
All materials will also be provided for two classes in Portrait Drawing with Charcoal/Pencil with Joan Ryan.
The classes are being offered over one or two days in June, July and August. For more information or to register for a class, contact Dale Rogers at 413-875-5205 or graycatbirdpottery@gmail.com. Space is limited, and some of the classes are filling up quickly.
Rogers, who teaches pottery both wheel-thrown and hand-built year-round, talked about the wealth of talent in the area. “Some have not yet had time and opportunity to discover that within themselves — as is clearly made evident by the lovely work of our pottery students. We need ways to find and tap into our own creativity, expand, practice, and refine skills, and invent,” she said.
“The art-making workshops offer individuals opportunities to explore and express their own hidden talents.”
Space for the classes is limited, and is filling up quickly. The Gray Catbird Gift Shop and Pottery Studio at 22 East Main St. in Huntington may also be followed on Facebook. Hours are Tuesdays, 2-6 p.m.; Wednesdays and Fridays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3-6 p.m.; Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Closed Sundays and Mondays.
