WE ARE HOMETOWN NEWS.

SOMERS — Bargain hunters and local residents alike are gearing up for the Somers Townwide Tag Sale, set to take place on Saturday, May 3, rain or shine.

Now in its fifth year, the popular event takes place twice a year on the first Saturday of May and October. “The Townwide Tag Sale began five years ago,” explained Somers Town Clerk David Marti. “We have historically had between 30 and 50 participants per event.”

The event has grown steadily in popularity, from 30 to 50 participants each time, Marti said. Businesses and organizations are encouraged to join in the fun. “A smaller local business, [KK’s This n’ That Shop] on Main Street, has participated in the past two events,” Marti added.

Participation is free, with the usual $5 per day tag sale permit fee waived for the special occasion. In addition to waiving fees, the town also helps promote participants. “We also promote everyone participating by posting on the town’s website the day before, a listing by road, of everyone participating,” Marti explained.

With sign-ups closed, a full list of participating addresses was expected to be available on the town’s website by May 1.

“It seems to continue to grow, and many residents now look forward to it,” said Marti. “The fact that many homes are participating appeals to the tag sale regulars, because they can efficiently visit many tag sales on the same day.”

As a proud supporter of the event, Marti added, “As a public servant, I always enjoy the opportunity to offer additional benefits to our residents at no charge.”
