ENFIELD — If you’re looking for a local spot to de-stress while having a cold drink in your hand, try Red Brewster Brewery, a family-owned and operated farm brewery located at 50 Weymouth Rd. The Red Brewster offers several different beers, hard cider from Stafford Cidery and wines from local wineries such as Worthington Winery. They also have cornhole competitions on Wednesday evenings from 6-8 p.m., paint and sip nights, live music and food trucks.
Owners Charlie Mastroberti, his wife Ellen and daughters Leah and Christie opened the brewery in September of 2023. “Just about everybody that visits here says this is almost like being at home,” he said. “They love the atmosphere. Outside we have fire pits and firewood that people could use. It’s a real cozy environment.”
Originally, Mastroberti and his wife started their farm as a way to get their special needs daughter Leah involved with animals. They were looking for something more to do with the farm, so one night four years ago they came up with some ideas.
Mastroberti recalled, “Our other daughter Christie and her husband loved to visit breweries. They got us involved and we thought that would be nice on our farm and it took off from there.”
The Red Brewster’s most popular beers are the Blue Cheesecake Sour, Citrakong (a Citra IPA), Pitchfork Porter (a vanilla porter) and the Sunshine Pilsner. They placed first in the Best Brewery category of the North Central News Reader’s Poll 2024.
“To be voted best new brewery of 2024 took us by surprise,” Mastroberti said. “We are extremely thankful to everyone who voted for us and who has supported us through our journey. It is everyone who works with us at the brewery who makes it a special place to visit, and we can’t be more grateful and proud of them.”
Enfield resident Stacy Thurston lives not too far from the brewery and drives by it often. One night, she met some friends there and had a great time.
“I feel the brewery is a great place to relax and unwind,” Thurston said. “The people are so friendly and welcoming. You feel like you are at home. My husband has met people from different states that were in town for one reason or another and before you know it you have a long-lost friend. It also has different musical groups performing as well as different food trucks that are fun to try.”
Nicole Powell and her husband Lance live right up the street from the brewery. They first heard about the Red Brewster Brewery on an Enfield Facebook forum.
“It’s the perfect local spot to unwind, sample craft beers and enjoy great food and live music,” Powell said. “My favorite drink is the Sunshine Pilsner. My husband’s favorite is Citra Kong.”
Powell also spoke highly of the staff and atmosphere in the brewery.
“The Red Brewster Brewery created a gathering place that brings people from the neighborhood and the local community together. The owners and the staff are wonderful. We have met lots of people that live right in the neighborhood that we probably would not have met otherwise,” she said.
Employee Robin Bernal heard about the Red Brewster on social media and started working there at the beginning of October 2023.
“The owners Charlie, Ellen, Christie and Leah are such a great family that work hard to make this small community business what it is today,” Bernal said. “They are such a kind, devoted and caring family, and a pleasure to work for. Second, all the customers — regular customers and new customers that have supported the brewery and all that work there. So many supported customers that are all willing to help make the Red Brewster succeed.”
Bernal also spoke highly of the brewery’s community element.
“The Red Brewster brings friends, new friends, and the community all together. Just a cute quaint brewery for anyone to bring their family, see the farm animals, bring their snacks and enjoy our beers and music,” she said.
Right now, Mastroberti is trying to expand their seating area. Hopefully by adding a canopy with tent sites to their tap room, they’ll be able to accommodate a larger crowd during the winter months.
“The biggest reward for me is how nice the patrons have been,” said Mastroberti. “I can’t say enough good things on how nice the people have been that visit the brewery and the sense of community. You can really feel it there.”
Red Brewster Brewery is open on Thursdays from 3-8 p.m., Fridays from 3-9 p.m., Saturdays from 12-9 p.m. and Sundays from 12-6 p.m. Visit their website at www.theredbrewster.com and follow them on Facebook.
