WE ARE HOMETOWN NEWS.

ENFIELD — If you are craving authentic Mexican cuisine, there’s a new restaurant at 112 Spring St. in Enfield that makes everything from scratch.

Sabores Mexicanos Restaurant serves tacos, burritos, quesadillas, taquitos, nachos, empanadas, flautas and queso, along with fresh margaritas, mojitos and cantaritos.

Owner Miguel Alavez said, “We started as a food truck two years ago in Hartford and a lot of people were asking us if we had a location. We found this place and here we are.”

He continued, “I was born in Mexico and cooking Mexican food is my culture, which I want to introduce to everyone and give them a taste of where I come from.”

Alavez has been cooking for 25 years. He spent 20 years working in the kitchen and was a chef in a Mexican restaurant in downtown Hartford and East Windsor. After that, he started the food truck, but always wanted to expand the business into a restaurant.

“What makes us is the food and that’s one of the key points that I want everyone to be able to try,” Alavez said.
Hartford resident Laura Martinez is excited about Sabores having a restaurant so many people, including herself, love their food and wanted somewhere where she’s able to dine.

“I knew of them when I went to their food truck,” said Martinez. “I think it’s very important to showcase Mexican cuisine here in Connecticut because it’s a great way to showcase someone’s culture in a way that everyone can enjoy.”

Middletown resident Ashlyn Lower has been to their food truck at multiple farmers markets in Wethersfield and Cromwell. She’s ecstatic to see that Sabores has a restaurant in Enfield. Sometimes it was hard for her to catch their food truck, but now she knows there is a place she can always go for delicious tacos.

“I love Mexican food,” Lower said. “I think it has some of the most flavorful options for people at a price point a lot of people can afford.”

She went on to say, “Connecticut’s food scene is special because we have so many cultures represented and I am always excited to see more authentic businesses open up.”

Sabores Mexicanos Restaurant had a soft opening on June 21 and will have its grand opening in a month.

Its hours will be Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 1 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Currently, the restaurant is offering Happy Hour on Monday through Friday from 3-6 p.m. They are also trying to put a brunch menu together for the weekends after the grand opening.

“We want to offer customers good service and good food,” Alavez added. “My goal is to be a good neighbor in this neighborhood. I want to offer a nice quiet place you can bring your family to enjoy some food and drinks and have a great time.”
