WILBRAHAM — The Wilbraham Children’s Museum will host its trunk-or-treat event on Sunday, Oct. 20, from 2-6 p.m. at Fern Valley Farms, 758 Main St.

The annual event is designed to offer an enjoyable way for young children to safely trick-or-treat while spending time with family and the Wilbraham community, Wilbraham Children’s Museum President Amanda Docherty told Reminder Publishing. This is the third time that the annual event has been hosted at Fern Valley Farms.

The event will feature up to 35 trunks by local businesses and organizations, such as the Girl Scouts, Interskate 91, Wilbraham Family Dentistry and the Wilbraham Fire Department, Docherty said. While the event is mostly tailored to children under 5, siblings and cousins over 5 are welcome as well.

As a ticketed event, visitors must purchase a ticket online prior to attending the event. Tickets are only required for trick-or-treating children and cost $4 for WCM members and $8 for non-members per child. Tickets can be purchased for half-hour time slots between 2-4:30 p.m. with the trunks officially closing at 5 p.m. Tickets can sell out for certain time slots. Parking is included in the cost of a ticket.

When arriving to the event, trick-or-treaters should check in during their reserved time slot. Children and their families with purchased tickets are able to attend the event before or after their time slot to enjoy the rest of the event, Docherty said. She estimated that the event could draw as many as 600 visitors.

In addition to the trunk-or-treat activity, ticketed visitors can also enjoy food from the grill and ice cream offered by Fern Valley Farms as well as drinks from Fieldcrest Brewing Company.

Located at 678 Main St., Wilbraham Children’s Museum offers events and weekly playgroups for families with children under age 5. For a paid membership, families can enjoy events such as Cookies and Cocoa with Santa, the Holiday Light Trail of Wilbraham and Bedtime Stories as well as access to playgroups inside the museum where children can play with costumes, a model kitchen and grocery store, racecars, puppets and other toys, Docherty explained. Membership is not limited to Wilbraham residents.

While these activities are only available to members, the nonprofit also hosts events open to non-members, such as the trunk-or-treat event and the annual Turkey Toddle at Minnechaug Regional High School, Docherty stated.

“[Wilbraham Children’s Museum is] a great way to find time with your little ones,” Docherty emphasized. She stated that the requirement for parents to stay with their children during playgroups allowed an opportunity for adults to meet each other while children can play and make friends to grow up together.

Docherty noted her own experience with the nonprofit, explaining that she first joined the organization after coming as a parent with her child. She highlighted that children at the playgroups can be accompanied by a parent, grandparent or caregiver.
