MONTGOMERY — The Montgomery Historical Society invites the public to a special program on Saturday, May 10 at 2 p.m. in Montgomery Town Hall, 161 Main Rd., to hear local author Robert Madison discuss his recently-published book “General Washington’s Secret Armory — Biography of Lt. Richard Falley, Jr., Revolutionary Soldier, Patriot & Armorer.”
CHESTER — David Pierce, president of the Chester Foundation and the Chester Railway Station Museum said this year, as the U.S. begins to celebrate its 250th anniversary, Chester on Track on May 17 is a good place to come to learn about firsts in Massachusetts. The Western Railroad, which opened in 1841, was an attempt to reach the Erie Canal to Albany to New York trade route, from which Boston had been formerly cut off.
Harry Rock, race director for the 70th running of the Westfield River Wildwater Races on April 19 said he believed the final head count was 293 paddlers on the river.

CHESTER — Chester Elementary School took advantage of its picture day with O’Connor Studios on April 17 to take a group shot of the majority of its 113 students proudly wearing T-shirts proclaiming Chester Elementary as a 2024 Massachusetts School of Recognition, a designation from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
