Following a vigorous May 23 debate session, the nearly $60 billion budget reached unanimous approval by the Massachusetts state Senate. Members adopted more than 400 of the 1,100 amendments filed, resulting in close to $90 million of additional spending with Western Massachusetts lawmakers maintaining the regions stake in funding.

In the same year, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, American Academy of Pediatrics and Children’s Hospital Association jointly issued a national state of emergency in children’s mental health.The town of Ludlow has decided to address the issue of mental health with two initiatives that pool the resources of the public and private health professionals, educators and emergency services.
