SPRINGFIELD — Fulfilling one of the recommendations in the Master Plan and with the support of the Select Board, the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority, in partnership with the Franklin Regional Transit Authority, launched a new public transit route that includes Southwick.
SOUTHWICK — Conservation Commission Chair Norm Cheever announced at its meeting on May 18 that four alternatives have been developed to mitigate flooding events at Congamond Lakes, and he said the costs range from $3 million to $222 million.
SOUTHWICK — Of the town’s 7,969 registered voters, 142 attended Town Meeting on May 19, and of those, 126 cast votes on an article to levy a meals tax, which had the potential to generate over $140,000 annually.
SOUTHWICK — For 117 days, a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck that was driven on the ice of the Middle Pond in late January, crashed through and submerged in over 25 feet of water, was recovered on May 18 by members of the Western Massachusetts Regional Dive Team.
SOUTHWICK — While three of the last four elections for the open seat on the Select Board were decided by fewer than 83 votes, Joseph Deedy’s drubbing of incumbent board member Diane Gale will stand out as one of the most lopsided wins in recent years.
