WESTFIELD — The School Committee’s vote to accept the fiscal year 2026 budget of $75.57 million followed public participation with more advocacy for positions and programs that are among next year’s cuts, and a discussion on how a Senate earmark by state Sen. John Velis of $250,000 will impact the bottom line.
WESTFIELD — Local baseball historian Dan Genovese has published the third book in his series on the roots of baseball in Westfield. “The Old Ball Ground: Volume 3 — Whip City Baseball in the Rock ‘n Roll Era,” covers the ’40s through ’70s, with the start of rock and roll in the background.
WESTFIELD — For 56 years, Westfield Middle School has observed Memorial Day with an assembly inviting area veterans to be recognized for their service, and this year’s assembly on May 20 was part of the grand tradition. Local veterans, many from American Legion Post 124 in Westfield and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 872 in Southwick gathered in the library, where they were teamed up with students to be escorted into the auditorium.
HUNTINGTON — At the start of the May 14 Gateway Regional School Committee and in a conversation after the meeting, Superintendent Kristen Smidy talked about some of the administrative changes facing the district this year.
