Representative Angelo J. Puppolo, Jr. knows the crippling effect of the high cost of health care and is doing something about it, despite the false claims of a recent letter writer. Representative Puppolo was a strong advocate and voted in favor of H.5618, An Act strengthening primary care and advancing health care affordability. This landmark legislation strengthens primary care, lowers prescription drug costs, supports hospitals and community health centers, and invests in Massachusetts’ health care workforce. With his support, this bill invests $25 Million to recruit, train, and retain health care professionals across the Commonwealth, lowers out-of-pocket prescription drug costs by requiring manufacturer rebates to be applied directly at the pharmacy counter, expands access to mobile integrated health services and other community-based models of care, strengthens hospitals and federally qualified community health centers, and increases transparency and patient protections governing the use of artificial intelligence in health insurance utilization review.
Additionally, despite other false claims, Rep. Puppolo worked closely with the Chair of the House Committee on Health Care Financing, John Lawn, on releasing H. 5590 legislation that would establish a commission for the implementation of a single payer health care system. This is a significant step and is based on a thoughtful data driven approach to further strengthening our health care system – which Puppolo supports. Access to affordable, high-quality health care for all is a priority of Rep. Puppolo and these are just two examples which he has taken to help build a healthier Commonwealth by focusing on prevention, improving patient outcomes, and ensuring our health care system works better for families, seniors, patients and providers.
