RUSSELL — The popular Russell Parade of Lights featuring area fire and police departments and vehicles of every kind, is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 14. The parade has been a local draw since 2000.
Parade organizer Missy Castro of the Russell Parks & Recreation Committee said this year, Santa will be brought to the Russell Town Hall between 4:30 and 4:45 p.m., arriving in a mini–Blue Light Parade of police vehicles.
The official Parade of Lights will then take off from the Russell Fire Department at 6 p.m. and continue up Main Street, turning left onto Route 20 to Old Westfield Road, then returning to Main Street.
People may park in the Holy Family Church lot on Route 20. Handicapped parking is available at the Post Office on Main St.
Besides fire and police vehicles, already signed up are golf cars, quads, the Hampden Sheriff Mounted Police and some tractors from the Wyben Lighted Tractor Parade. Castro said there are also some private vehicles with floats. Any vehicle is welcome as long as it has lights on it, she said.
Participants may contact Castro at 413-454-578 with questions.
