Prepare for a scare at the Hilltown Hikers Sinister Saw Halloween on Oct. 26.

CHESTER — The first Halloween Sinister Saw will take place on Oct. 26, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chester Granite Sawmill, 7 Prospect St., across from the Chester Railway Station.
Organizer Liz Massa of the Western Mass. Hilltown Hikers suggests visitors be prepared for “a spine-tingling, jump-out-of-your-pants walk through the haunted woods.” The haunted trail will feature a 12-foot diameter cutting saw, real tombstones, bloody ghouls, zombies and more.
Volunteers will greet visitors, who will be taken in small groups through the trail entrance across from the train station. Parking is available at the train station and at the parking lot across from the ballfield on Emery Street. There will be strobe lights and sound effects by a professional sound engineer that will be skin-crawling, Massa promised, adding, “Don’t worry, we will make sure you get out … alive.”
If the saw is too scary for little kids, face painting, pumpkin painting, balloon twisting, snacks and a bonfile will be available at the Chester Railway Station.
No registration is necessary; all are welcome. Dogs should stay home, and visitors are asked to wear solid shoes for some uneven ground. Donations are also welcome to support the renovations to the historic Chester Granite Saw.
The Hilltown Hikers Sinister Saw is part of a town-wide celebration on Oct. 26 for the spooky holiday. A rag shag parade will assemble at Chester Town Hall at 4 p.m. and march down Main Street, where there will be a town-wide trunk-or-treat event.
