HUNTINGTON — Ruth Kennedy and Jim Cortis of Russell, joined by Veterans Service Office Steve Connor spoke at assemblies of students in Gateway Regional High School, Middle School and Littleville Elementary students on Friday, Nov. 9 for Veterans Day.
Invited guests were state Sen. John Velis (D-Westfield), who spoke to the morning upper class assemblies, and state Rep. Kelly Pease (R-Westfield) in the afternoon, who were joined by Russell veterans Ruth Kennedy and Jim Cortis, and Veterans Service Officer Steve Conner.
“The students had lots of good questions and appreciated learning about the history and hearing the stories of the veterans. I am thankful that Ruth and Jim wanted to put this together for us and they really made it special and personalized for our students,” said Gateway Superintendent Kristen Smidy.
