Dan Zwirko, vice chair of the Longmeadow Select Board, announced his candidacy for reelection to the Select Board on Monday, Feb. 24.
Mr. Zwirko, a former Legislative Aide to state Rep. Brian Ashe and a product of the Longmeadow Public Schools system, has been serving on the board since 2022. “It has been an honor to serve our community over the past two and a half years on the Select Board as clerk and now vice chair, while also serving as the liaison to the Long Range Planning Committee. I am proud to be the only candidate running to have never missed a vote on the Select Board,” said Zwirko. In addition to his service on the Select Board, Mr. Zwirko continues to volunteer as a Longmeadow youth lacrosse coach and works with Fortune 500 companies as a regional software security sales manager.
Given a second term, Zwirko vows to build off his accomplishments to ensure Longmeadow continues to be a great community to live, work, play, and raise a family. Since joining the board, Mr. Zwirko has:
- Introduced the first mobile app for the town to help enhance communication, resident engagement, online bill pay, and more
- Led two large waste cleanups at the Wolf Swamp Fields and Meadows conservation land, and a painting project at Blueberry Hill School, in partnership with the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, saving the town ~$50,000
- Supported funding for the educational literacy program for elementary school students
- Played a critical role in negotiating the DPW settlement of $400,000, awarded to the town from two lawsuits dating back to 2019 and 2021
- Supported Longmeadow seniors and veterans by voting to expand their benefits, events, and services
- Supported infrastructure improvements including the largest single investment in paving town roads
- Supported efforts to bring Municipal Fiber to Longmeadow residents
- Continued to fight against the proposed Eversource Pipeline in Longmeadow
- Introduced and passed a resolution condemning anti-semitism and supporting Israel and the Jewish community after the horrific attacks on Oct. 7, 2023
Mr. Zwirko is the first candidate to collect the required signatures needed to secure a spot on the ballot and his campaign is in full swing. He shared, “The encouragement and energy from residents around my grassroots reelection campaign has been amazing. I’ve already been knocking on doors and meeting with residents of all ages across town. I look forward to connecting with as many residents as possible now through June, learning about your priorities and sharing my vision for moving Longmeadow forward, together.”
