CHESTER — “The Natural World,” an exhibit by Huntington artist Daniel Delisle, is opening at A Reason to Pause Art and Artisan Gallery in Chester on Saturday, Aug. 10, at 2 p.m. The exhibit will be featured through the end of August at the gallery.

Delisle, who is originally from Chicopee and moved to Huntington last fall after a decade or so in Westfield, teaches art at Chicopee Comprehensive High School. He has a master’s degree in fine arts in illustration from the University of Hartford, and a bachelor’s degree in art education. He has received best of show awards, including at the Arnold Maris gallery, president’s choice awards, and has earned multiple blue ribbons in juried shows. His short stories and illustrations have been published in Massachusetts Wildlife magazine and in scientific journals.

Delisle calls his style of art romantic realism — his “interpretation of the natural world.”

“I love painting my experiences and I love being outdoors. For 27 years I had a job working indoors in an office. Every chance I got, I would get outdoors in the woods. For me, creating art is just reliving those experiences and recording the feelings and encounters I’ve had. What I’m doing is reliving those experiences through my art,” Delisle said.

A lot of Delisle’s paintings and compositions include bodies of water and boats.

“Water is grounding for me,” he said. “I love New England — I love encountering and having experiences in the forests, fields and along the water’s edge. I love being there in it.”

On display at the show in Chester, Delisle will have watercolor sketches along with larger oil paintings for sale. One of his paintings, of Jersey cows in stalls at feeding time, is 8 feet wide.

“I love interesting compositions and shapes, and lately I’ve been exaggerating colors,” Delisle said about his current work, which may be viewed at danieldelisle.net.

Open hours at A Reason to Pause Art and Artisan Gallery are 1-5 p.m., Wednesdays through Saturdays, at 25 Main St., Chester. Delisle’s exhibit will be on view through the end of the month.
