Huntington concertgoers enjoy last show of Huntington Summer Music Series on Aug. 22 on the Town Green.

HUNTINGTON — The Huntington Summer Music Series wrapped up on Aug. 22 with a performance by Chalk Dust, a band made up of West Springfield public school teachers Chuck Dufault (English), Natalie Donze (science), Chris Taft (science), Bryan Ouimet (English) and Dan Haryasz (history).
Donze said the majority of the band had been playing together for 10 years. She joined four years ago, and Haryasz, two years ago. Chalk Dust plays locally in Hampden County and at Knox Trail restaurant in Otis.
Huntington Music Series coordinator Vicki Mayhew, of the Community Events Committee, said this was a successful summer of performances, with only one having to go inside of Stanton Hall due to rain. She said organizers counted almost 170 people on the Town Green for alternative singer-songwriter Otan Vargas on July 25, their biggest draw of the summer.
Mayhew said every year, she tries to bring in three new acts, along with bringing back popular artists who have previously performed in the series.

Every week, a different nonprofit also benefits from a bake sale. For Aug. 22, representatives of the Hilltown Community Ambulance Association prepared the treats.
All performances of the Thursday evening Summer Music Series are free, and sponsored by the Huntington Community Events committee.
The next event slated for the Town Green is the Huntington Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 6, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring food, crafts, a petting zoo, face painting, balloon twister and pumpkin painting. There will be live music on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., by Out of Bounds, and Sunday, 10 to 2 p.m., by Time Stretchers. Vendors are being sought.
