OTIS — Those who wish to run for local government in the town of Otis have until April 9 to submit the proper forms to the town clerk’s office.
This year, candidates will run for a three-year Selectboard term, a one-year moderator term, a one-year tree warden term, a three-year Finance Board term, a three-year cemetery commissioner term, a three-year library trustee term, a five-year Planning Board term, and two three-year School Committee terms.
There are two ways to get on the election ballot: the town caucus or nomination papers. To run in the town caucus, candidates must pick up a caucus request form from the clerk’s office at 1 N. Main Rd., Otis, and return it by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9. The caucus itself takes place 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, at Town Hall. To be nominated at the caucus, candidates must receive at least 8% of the total vote and be one of the top two choices (except School Committee, where the top four choices will be nominated).
Nomination petition papers are available at the town clerk’s office. To be nominated by petition, candidates must submit 20 signatures from Otis registered voters by 5 p.m., Tuesday, April 9.
This year’s town election is on May 28. Those with questions can contact Town Clerk Lyn O’Brien at 413-269-0100, ext. 112. Her office hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Thursday.
