On the afternoon of June 22, areas of Hampden and Wilbraham were impacted by a severe thunderstorm that swept through the region. According to Wilbraham Regional Emergency Communications Director Anthony Gentile, between 3:30 and 7:30 p.m., the dispatch center received 114 emergency calls and responded to 97 with personnel across Wilbraham and Hampden. Calls included concerns about fallen trees, including those on buildings, and downed wires, including an incident during which a live wire fell on an occupied vehicle in Hampden. Gentile estimated approximately 30% of both towns lost power. In Wilbraham, the area near Monson Road and the southern and northwestern parts of town were most impacted, he said. Pictured are impacted areas including those surrounding Main Street and Monson Road in Wilbraham as well as Glendale Road in Wilbraham and Hampden the following day.
