Squindo retains Select Board seat following Wilbraham election

WILBRAHAM — Voters filed into Minnechaug Regional High School for Wilbraham’s town election on May 16 and the results are in.

Eight hundred and eighty out of the town’s 12,050 registered voters voted in this year’s election and made their picks in three contested races out of nine total boards.

Select Board Chair Michael Squindo defeated Ryan Costello, receiving 472 votes and winning the race for his second three-year term. Squindo had only won by 28 votes for his first race in 2023 and has increased that number to 112 votes over Costello’s 360.

The Hampden-Wilbraham Regional School Committee had two candidates for Wilbraham representatives. The race wasn’t contested since two seats were open, but voters showed support for William Metzger Jr. with 582 votes. School Committee member Michael Tirabassi received 498 votes.

The Board of Assessors did have a contested race, and voters stuck with Chair John Wesolowski with 509 votes. His challenger, Daniel Fernandes, received 317 votes. The Planning Board also featured a contested race, with Stephen Holstrom coming out on top by 26 votes over Joseph Cantalini. There were 621 blank ballots in the Planning Board race.

The Board of Library Trustees featured two candidates, incumbent Ronnie Haislip-Hansberry and Marylou Fabbo. There were two seats open, with Haislip-Hansberry receiving 604 votes and Fabbo receiving 462. This race had eight write-in votes and 686 blanks Every other race only had one candidate each.

Water Commisioner John Caltabiano was reelected with 676 votes, Aaron Shepard was voted into the Housing Authority with 615 votes and Walker Eaton was voted into the Cemetery Commission with 90 votes.
