SOUTHWICK — The Southwick High School class of 1964 reunion committee has been busy meeting to plan a weekend of events for the 60th reunion on the weekend of Sept. 20-22.

Actually, the committee never stopped meeting. The members of the original committee that organized itself 60 years ago are all still active.

“We’ve held a class reunion every five years since we graduated. I think that’s pretty impressive,” said Nancy Kaminski of Huntington, one of the original members on the committee, along with Marie Boccasile, Jackie Jaros and Elaine Markel of Westfield, and Cynthia Lydiard, Janis Prifti and Georgiann Thompson of Southwick.

The 60th reunion celebration will begin Friday, Sept. 20, with an optional meet-and-greet at the Southwick Inn, beginning at 7 p.m. Kaminski said anyone from any graduating class is welcome to drop in and say hello.

Registration has closed for the Sept. 21 reunion luncheon, which is just for members of the class of 1964, their spouses and partners, at Tucker’s Restaurant. Kaminski said in the past they have invited other classes, but this time they wanted to keep it more intimate. She said they had a very small class of 72 people, and 50% of them are showing up to this year’s reunion, which she called “pretty significant.”

The committee is also inviting the three teachers with whom they are still in touch, who also came to their last reunion: Their former gym teacher and cheerleading coach, band teacher and a teacher who became the principal of Southwick High School after they graduated. Kaminski said she hopes they will attend.

To cap off the weekend, the committee is hosting an optional Sunday brunch at The Launch on Congamond Lake beginning at 10 a.m., which is also open to anyone who wants to drop in.

Kaminski said the class of 1964 was the second graduating class of what was then the new high school and is now Southwick Regional School.

She said she is the only transplant on the reunion committee, having moved to Southwick from Pennsylvania in her ninth grade year. The others all grew up in Southwick and have known each other since elementary school.
