WE ARE HOMETOWN NEWS.

SOMERS — The Friends of the Somers Library Book Sale returns this weekend with loads of books ready for new readers.

“The public looks forward to both our spring and fall sales. We have numerous repeat customers and new customers every year,” said Jean Mandirola, one of the event’s organizers. “The children’s section of our sale is quite popular with parents and kids. Children enjoy picking out books that they can keep.”

Proceeds from the sale will go toward many library programs for adults and children. Those include funding local museum passes and Wonderbooks and Launchpads in the children’s section and the Santa celebration during the holidays.

The event begins with a preview sale on Friday, Oct. 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. Although Friends of the Somers Library members may attend for free, the cost is $10 for everyone else. The general sale will take place on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Each day will feature certain specials. On Saturday, K-12 educators, with a current teacher identification card, will get one free book for every 10 purchased.

On Sunday, books will be half-price and attendees can stuff a bag, $10 for a new Friends of the Somers Library and $5 for an older Friends of the Somers Library bag.

Prices will range from 50 cents to $2, although there may be a few special books with higher prices. Organizers expect thousands of donated books on a wide range of topics, including history, cooking, sports and gardening. In addition to books, there will be puzzles, audiobooks, CDs and DVDs.

The bi-annual sale has become a tradition, having occurred for more than 20 years. The Friends of Somers Library would like to thank all those who have already donated their books to help create a successful book sale.

The Somers Library is located at 2 Vision Blvd. in Somers. The sale will accept cash, check, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Visa and Mastercard as payments. For more information, please contact the Somers Public Library at 860-763-3501.
