CHICOPEE — Chicopee will have a new place offering various hair care services after Divalicious Beauty Salon, located at 45 Perkins St., hosted a ribbon-cutting and grand opening ceremony on Aug. 7 to celebrate its arrival to the city.
Divalicious Owner Javier Mulero explained that the business is a full salon service offering lashes, extensions, hair color, dyes, blow-dry and wash. He said he’s also available for weddings and other parties.
“Whatever a woman wants to feel beautiful, whatever they need, that’s what I do,” Mulero stated. “I do it for the passion. I don’t do it for the money. A lot of people nowadays do it for the money.”
Mulero said one thing he wants to prioritize at the salon is listening to his clients to make sure they feel comfortable and get exactly what they want or need.
“I want them when they come in, I want them to feel good. I want them to not be nervous. I want them to, when they come in, I’m gonna listen to you. I’m gonna listen to what you want because we need that in this community,” Mulero said. “There’s a lot of people that do hair, but they don’t take their time and effort to listen to the clients and to the women and what they want.”
Divalicious will be open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The salon will be closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Mulero said if a client needs him to come in on those days off, he will try to make an appointment. Otherwise, he recommends that people make an appointment for a day the salon is open.
He explained that Divalicious started 15 years ago. After losing a previous business in Springfield in June 2011, Mulero said he is now back in action and has decided to move to Chicopee.
“It’s going to be my new home. I’m excited. I have a lot to offer and a lot to give,” Mulero stated. “It’s going to be a new opportunity for me.”
Before opening his store in Chicopee, Mulero said he interned at a salon with an Italian designer for two years, an experience that he said taught him many life lessons. If he could do that internship, “he could do anything in the world,” he said.
Mulero went on to become an educator, work with models in fashion shows and provide case fighting. Those experiences inspired Mulero to open his own salon.
“They say you have to throw in the seeds to grow more. You can never forget where you came from,” Mulero said. “I feel great. I feel like a new person. I’m excited for a lot of the opportunities that are gonna come my way. I feel super excited like a little kid that opened a new toy.”
After driving around neighboring cities, Mulero said someone briefed him on the Perkins Street location, which became available after the previous business moved out.
“I fell in love, and I was like, ‘This is going to be mine. This is what I want. I feel like this is going to be the Divalicious salon. This is going to be fun,’” Mulero said when describing the feeling he felt when he toured the storefront.
Mayor John Vieau welcomed Mulero at the ribbon-cutting and congratulated him for starting his business.
“I just wanted to say to you, congratulations on becoming a stakeholder in downtown Chicopee. We wish you the best,” Vieau stated. “I wish you the best, I wish you success, I wish you much prosperity and growth and, of course, good health. We hope to be here for not just today’s ribbon cutting, but we’ll celebrate your annual, your five-year, your 10-year, your 30-year, all of them. We hope to see you successful here.”
