WE ARE HOMETOWN NEWS.

ENFIELD — The Little Sisters of the Poor in Enfield are calling upon all classic car owners to wash and polish up their cherished collectibles for entry in their annual Classic Car Show.

The fundraising event, set to take place on June 21 on the front lawn of their St. Joseph’s Residence at 1365 Enfield St., begins at 5 p.m.

Entry fee is $10 and free to the general public, with donations accepted, who want to view the shiny beauties of yesteryear. To raise additional funds, there will be a 50-50 raffle and other raffles for gift baskets.

One of several fundraisers hosted throughout the year, all proceeds will help to complete many of the sisters’ ongoing building projects in need of repair or replacement including boilers, plumbing, electrical and more at St. Joseph’s Residence where needy elderly age 65 and over can live in a home-like atmosphere.

“The sisters are doing great work to support people in need and this fundraiser is important to them,” said Dan Surdel, who is volunteering his time to help park the cars entering the show.

“You won’t see any of today’s street cars or electric cars here, but there will be plenty of classic and muscle cars including imports, rat rods, Jeeps and so many others, including maybe even an antique car,” he added.

Surdel, who has helped to organize and has participated in different car shows and cruise nights since 1991, will also be showing his own prized possession — a 2008 Mustang which he purchased in 2010 with only 5,000 miles on it. He also once owned a Camaro and Corvette which he once entered in other shows.

“I love helping at the show, especially seeing the smiles on the faces of spectators when they see these cars and go ‘ooh and aah,’” Surdel said.

For those working up an appetite while walking among the more than 100 classic cars on display, there will be fuel to “fill their tanks” from Tacos La Rosa and Adams Ice Cream.

To add to the festive atmosphere of the night, DJ Bobby from the New England Doo Wop Society will play music from the ‘50s and ‘60s.

Rain date is June 28.

The Little Sisters of the Poor are an international congregation of Roman Catholic women religious founded in 1839 by Saint Jeanne Jugan, who serve the elderly poor in over 30 countries.
