ENFIELD — St. Joseph Residence will have its annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and a Tag Sale on Friday, Nov. 15, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The bazaar will have raffles, baked goods, food games and much more.
“This marks our ninth year,” said Director of Development Sister Frances. “We hope to have a lot of people. This year should be really good. We’re going to have a whole bunch of things.”
She went on to say, “We’ll have a bake sale. We’ll have chili, hot dogs and soup for food. Then we’ll have another room where we’ll have stuffed animals, jewelry and a couple of games. And then another whole other room with bake sale stuff that’s completely separated from the main bazaar.”
St. Joseph’s Residence is a residential care home and skilled nursing facility for the elderly. It was 101 years in New Haven, then the home was condemned by the fire department and moved to Enfield in June of 1972.
At St. Joseph’s Residence, the Little Sisters of the Poor provide care for elderly residents and make sure they’re attended to with dignity. Sister Frances has been at St. Joseph’s Residence for 10 years and a Little Sister for over 70 years.
“We take care of them from when they walk in and try to surround them with as much love as possible,” she said. “I get great joy when I see the residents happy. There’s always a Little Sister with them holding their hands and praying with them.”
Sister Frances was in Albany for 21 years where she did some fundraisers and always had a Christmas Bazaar which were huge.
“It’s a family event,” said Sister Frances. “We’d like for people to come in and see our home.”
She continued, “The Christmas Bazaar is an opening since four years of COVID. Everything we had, we had to have it outside or somewhere else. This will be the first time we’re going to use the whole place. We get to see our neighbors in Enfield and people from all over. It’s our chance to reach out to the people in the area.”
