CHICOPEE — The Boys & Girls Club of Chicopee unveiled a new club cruiser to bring fun activities to kids who can’t attend events at its 580 Meadow St. facility.
The club cruiser is equipped with sports equipment, a mini 3D printer, art supplies, iPads, a blender for smoothies, sidewalk chalk, cones and hoops for obstacle courses. Marketing and Development Director Lynn Morrissette said the club will keep adding more as it learns what kids in the community are interested in.
“We hope to utilize the club cruiser at local events throughout the year and visit areas of the city such as the many different parks,” she stated.
Besides offering fun activities for those who can’t visit the Boys and Girls Club, Morrissette said the cruiser’s goal is to introduce the club to others in the community who might not know about the many programs offered to members before and after school and in the summer.
The Boys and Girls Club of Chicopee hosted a press conference on Oct. 7 to show off the new cruiser. Local and state elected officials joined the event to celebrate its introduction.
Morrissette said it felt good to have the city and state support at the event.
“We are grateful to have the support of many local businesses and state government,” she stated. “We appreciate the fact that they support our ideas and vision to continue to provide for our youth and families in the city.”
The cruiser will be out at the Curry Honda Haunted Car Show on Oct. 18 and the Spooktacular at Sara Jane Park on Oct. 22.
The motto on the side of the van reads, “Building Futures Everywhere We Go,” which Morrissette said is the goal of the cruiser. The hope is to bring the club to new places, help meet new faces, create new opportunities, and make lasting memories along the way, she said.
Sponsors of the club cruiser include Teddy Bear Pools, Liberty Bank, The Vann Group and Marcotte Ford.
Morrissette said Liberty Bank Foundation was a lead contributor to the project and presented the club with a $50,000 check at the press conference.
