The year 2024 was one filled with political drama, new beginnings and signs of continued growth for the city of Springfield. Reminder Publishing took a look back at the year that was and selected some of the major storylines covered this year.
SPRINGFIELD — State Sen. Adam Gomez was honored at the Dec. 19 School Committee meeting for winning the Legislator of the Year award from the Massachusetts Association of School Committees.
WESTFIELD — After a dangerous hearing on Dec. 23 in District Court for two men charged by police for animal cruelty and the malicious killing of a pet rabbit during a Thanksgiving party were found dangerous but released with a host of conditions.
BOSTON — Westfield State University was awarded $400,000 by the Healey-Driscoll Administration on Dec. 12 to provide financial support for behavioral health students completing unpaid internships and field placements.
CHESTER — The town of Chester has announced a special town meeting on Monday, Jan. 6. to ask voters to authorize several town expenditures. Registered town voters are asked to meet in the Town Hall Auditorium, 15 Middlefield Rd. at 7 p.m.
SOUTHWICK — With the Special Town Meeting called for Tuesday, Jan. 14, the warrant has come into focus and will include two articles from the Community Preservation Committee for funding projects, one about a citizens’ petition, and another for a vote on a funds transfer to pay Fire Department salaries.
