WILBRAHAM — Seventh grade Wilbraham Middle School student Ian Stratton was honored as the second-place winner for level two of the 2024 Letters About Literature program during a May 21 ceremony at the Massachusetts State House.
Following a vigorous May 23 debate session, the nearly $60 billion budget reached unanimous approval by the Massachusetts state Senate. Members adopted more than 400 of the 1,100 amendments filed, resulting in close to $90 million of additional spending with Western Massachusetts lawmakers maintaining the regions stake in funding.
WILBRAHAM — A two-hour Town Meeting moved swiftly through a warrant containing 57 articles with attention focusing on the seemingly resolved differences in the budget numbers for the Hampden-Wilbraham Regional School District budget, funding for a new fire engine, issues concerning drinking water, battery storage, additions to the Memorial School pickleball courts, the presence of ice cream vendors and steeper fines for littering in town.
WILBRAHAM — With only two contested races in the field, the May 18 Town Election saw a slightly higher return from voters, largely attributed to mail in voting, sparked by this year’s presidential election.
WILBRAHAM — During the May 21 joint meeting of the Wilbraham Finance Committee, Wilbraham Select Board and Hampden-Wilbraham Regional School Committee, the groups agreed to compromise following a disagreement over the budget recommendation for HWRSD.
EAST LONGMEADOW — A well known local farm stand will stay true to tradition after opening this month under new ownership, but with the former owners sticking close by to help out.
