
Senior joins Agawam School Committee as voice for students

WEST SPRINGFIELD — On Sept. 12, the Big E once again opened its gates for another season. As always, hundreds of thousands of people are expected to walk the Eastern States Exposition fairgrounds. This year’s fair runs from Sept. 12 until Sept. 28.
AGAWAM — Mayor Christopher Johnson said he remembers Sept. 11, 2001 vividly. He was teaching three or four classes at Western New England University that day, but instead of talking about anything in the curriculum, he decided to discuss with his students what had happened earlier that morning.
HOLYOKE — The annual Phillips Festival will be returning for its eighth year on Saturday, Sept. 20, starting at 7:30 p.m.
There is a new face at the Wilbraham Public Library. Melissa Harter began her tenure as the library’s director on Aug. 25, taking the reins from retiring director Karen Ball.
HAMPDEN — The town of Hampden approved three new full-time members for the Conservation Commission, bringing the number of voting members to six. Associate commission members Eric Ainsworth, Joe Zinno and Marilyn D’Agostino asked to be made voting commissioners on Sept. 2.
