SPRINGFIELD — The state Legislature, including the entire Springfield delegation, approved a home rule petition that will allow Police Superintendent Lawrence Akers to remain in the position until the age of 70.
SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Thunderbirds visited Forest Park for the second of three Community Caravan events on July 22. The event featured an appearance from Thunderbirds mascot Boomer and team staff, as well as a wide variety of activities and vendors, street hockey activities, and food. The first Community Caravan event took place in June at Look Park in Northampton and a third will take place at Amelia Park in Westfield on Aug. 17, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
WARE — Residents can hope for the best but should be bracing themselves for disappointment when it comes to the final outcome for the former Mary Lane hospital property. That was the general message at a special meeting of the Historical Commission on July 22.
HAMPDEN — The Hampden Fire Department recent announced it is accepting applications for its new cadet program from Hampden and Wilbraham residents ages 16-18.
MONSON — The School Committee approved at its July 17 meeting the job description for its new Monson High School dean of students/director of counseling position, which will effectively replace the previous assistant principal position.
