SPRINGFIELD — Reminder Publishing is continuing its coverage of the general election with another round of questionnaires.

Ward 4 incumbent Malo Brown and challenger Willie Naylor will face off on Nov. 4 after winning the preliminary election in September. They were both sent the same three questions in preparation for the election. Brown did not respond by press time, but Naylor’s answers are listed below.

Readers can find other comments regarding the Ward 4 race in prior coverage on thereminder.com.

Reminder Publishing: What are some top priorities/issues you’d like to address as in Springfield?

Naylor: My campaign is rooted in building a stronger, healthier, and more connected Mason Square and Springfield as a whole. My top priorities are:

  • Economic Development & Job Creation: Partnering with community organizations to create opportunities for small businesses, entrepreneurs, and working families.
  • Public Health & Safety: Expanding resources for youth violence prevention, mental health, and substance abuse services, while strengthening community-based public safety initiatives.
  • Infrastructure & Quality of Life: Investing in ADA-compliant sidewalks, safer streets, and revitalized green spaces that foster community pride and well-being.
  • Support for Seniors: Advocating for affordable senior housing, expanded home care services, and access to broadband, ensuring our elders are supported and honored.

RP: What’s one or two things you think voters should know about you?

Naylor: First, I have over 25 years of service in ministry and community leadership, working alongside families, churches, and organizations to address real needs in Springfield. Service is not just what I do—it’s who I am.

Second, I am committed to transparency, fairness, and accountability. I will always make myself accessible to residents, showing up where the people are and making sure every voice is heard.

RP: In your eyes, how has the campaign been going?

Naylor: This campaign has been a walk in purpose. I believe Springfield is ready for new leadership — leadership that listens, builds, and unites. Every day on the doors, in the churches, and at community meetings, I hear the same message: it’s time for change. I feel confident that I am ready to lead.
