WILBRAHAM — Local wine and beer store The Guilty Grape has officially opened its doors to customers.
Located at Suite 103 of 6 Burt Lane, The Guilty Grape will offer a variety of local wines and craft beers as well as cheeses, crackers, grab and go items, honey, meats, oils and sake, owner Robert Ward told Reminder Publishing.
The store first welcomed customers on Oct. 29, marking its grand opening with a celebration and visit from state Sen. Jacob Oliveira (D-Ludlow) and state Rep. Angelo Puppolo (D-Springfield), Ward said.
A Hampden resident and owner of RH Ward Construction in Hampden, Ward first had the idea to open The Guilty Grape after observing that the location at 6 Burt Lane was ideal for such a business, he said. He had first found out about the property while working as the contractor for the building, named Center Village.
The location was attractive because it was in the center of town without being on Boston Road, Ward explained. It was convenient, local and accessible without the intimidation of busy streets that many feel toward Boston Road. Likewise, the property was “a nice spot” for a beer and wine store.
The Guilty Grape is now one of three businesses located in the 6 Burt Lane property, with the others being restaurant Pafumi’s on Main and Scantic River Brewery. The business is currently operated by Ward, his sister and a few employees, he stated. When asked why he chose to open a beer and wine store, Ward highlighted that he was interested in “diversifying” his businesses.
Visitors to The Guilty Grape will find its stock rotated weekly with seasonal craft beers and suggested products from customers.
