If you live in Enfield, Somers, or in the surrounding area, there are some upcoming seasonal events you may want to check out.
Enfield United Church of Christ’s Fall Festival is taking place on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 3-6 p.m. There will be games, food, bounce houses and tons of candy.
At 3 p.m., Grammy nominated children’s artist Judy Pancoast will perform a concert of children’s music on the stage inside. Plus, there will be trunk-or-treat cars in the church parking lot decorated for Halloween, offering a space for children to trick-or-treat.
“We have been doing this festival for a few years now,” said Rev. Dr. Greg Gray who’s the pastor of Enfield United Church of Christ. “I want folks to understand that our church is just a place that they can come to that is going to love and support them. We welcome everyone regardless of their own personal beliefs. We are a part of the community that wants to be there for everyone.”
Gray started at the church on March 1, 2020, and closed the building the following Thursday due to COVID-19. As the church was coming out of the coronavirus pandemic, they were looking at ways to engage with their community. The Fall Festival was one of the ways they are there as members of the church to serve the community and invite everyone to come and participate with them.
“I love to meet people in the community,” Gray said. “For an event like this, we do indeed get people who might not ever walk in our door on Sunday morning, or they’ve had a bad experience in another church. They get to come to us and just have a fun and relaxing day and eat lots of candy.”

The Somers Congregational United Church of Christ is also hosting a Halloween trunk-or-treat on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 4-5 p.m. at 599 Main St. with a rain date of Oct. 27. Participants decorate their cars’ trunks with Halloween themed items, candy and games. Then, children can go from car to car for treats. Last year, there were themes such as 101 Dalmatians, Day of the Dead, Frozen and Baby Shark. All are welcomed and children are encouraged to come in their costumes.
“This is our fourth year,” said Chairperson Jan Martin of the Fellowship Committee at the church which oversees the Trunk-or-Treat. “Last year was our big year and we had 17 trunks. We’ve got 12 so far and we’re still working on getting people to sign up their trunks.”
Somers Congregational United Church of Christ has been a part of the Somers community since 1727, helping those beyond their church doors in need of pastoral and spiritual care.
This year, First Student, which is the Somers School Department’s bus company, will be coming with a school bus that will be decorated and have games. The church will also have a station where volunteers apply temporary tattoos on attendees.
“It’s a community outreach from the church,” Martin shared. “We want people to have fun and enjoy themselves. It’s a very positive experience.”
