WE ARE HOMETOWN NEWS.

ENFIELD — The annual St. Jeanne Jugan Parish Carnival is back from Thursday, May 30, through Saturday, June 1, on the grounds of St. Bernard Church from 6-10 p.m.

There will be carnival rides, a variety of foods such as fried dough, French fries and hamburgers, to donuts and strawberry shortcakes, along with some games of skill and games of chance, and music every night. Additionally, there will be a children’s area with bounce houses and face painting.

“We have a variety of activities going on for a variety of ages,” said Ralph Williams, publicity chair for the carnival. “We want people to have a good time.”

The raffle drawing will be on June 1, at 9:30 p.m. Tickets for the raffle cost $5 each. This year’s three raffle prizes are Visa gift cards for $2,000, $1,500 and $1,000.

St. Jeanne Jugan Parish offers opportunities for parishioners who want to serve and enrich their faith. In June of 2017, Holy Family Church and St. Bernard Church were merged to form St. Jeanne Jugan Parish, and on Nov. 22, 2022, St. Martha Church and St. Raymond of Penafort — comprising of St. Patrick Church and St. Adalbert — became part of the parish, making St. Jeanne Jugan Parish the only parish in the town of Enfield.

“The carnival serves three purposes,” said Williams. “It fosters a sense of community within the parish. It fosters a sense of broader community for Enfield because it’s open to the public — anyone can come in — and it generates revenue that helps to sustain the parish’s activities and maintenance.”

Tickets for the raffle are available from parishioners and from parents of St. Bernard School students, as well as at the rectories of Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Rd.; St. Bernard Church, 426 Hazard Ave.; St. Martha Church, 214 Brainard Rd. and St. Patrick Church, 64 Pearl St.

The parish, which includes all of Enfield’s Roman Catholic churches is also offering opportunities to sponsor the carnival at a variety of levels. There are four sponsorship levels: platinum, for a $500 donation; gold, $300; silver, $200 and bronze, $150. Sponsorship donations are tax-deductible. Platinum sponsors’ names will be displayed above select booths during the carnival, and all sponsors’ names will be posted on a special “Honor Roll” board in front of both Holy Family and St. Bernard churches during the weeks leading up to and following the carnival.

For more information on sponsorships, call the St. Bernard Church rectory, 860-749-8353, or visit the parish’s website at sjjenfield.org.
