CHICOPEE — On Sept. 16, Chicopee hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of Priority Urgent Care at 1505 Memorial Dr.

They value patients first, being better each day and compassion.

One of the paramedics, Todd Lomento, talked about how it felt to bring the compassionate care of the staff at Priority Urgent Care to Massachusetts and specifically to Chicopee.

He said, “I want to thank everyone for coming here. This is our seventh clinic and the big thing I want to say is it takes a team to make this happen. It started about six months ago with no electricity, cobwebs to where we are today and we already have 10 patents which is pretty exciting considering we just opened an hour or so ago.”

The space was formerly a MedExpress that closed down a while ago and Priority Urgent Care worked to get it to where it is today. Currently there are six rooms located in the building to help patients with there needs.

Lomento said every department in Chicopee has been great in helping the move to the new space happen.

He said, “From your staff and each Chicopee department, they’ve been phenomenal and welcoming of our business here. It really is a well-oiled machine and great opportunity.”

Mayor John Vieau was at the ceremony to wish good luck to Priority Urgent Care but also to let them know how big of a help this will be in the community.

He said, “We’re excited to be here because certainly a void in Chicopee has been urgent care. We’re thankful that you’ve chosen Chicopee for your first branch in Massachusetts and there’s definitely a need. I’m sure that our local hospitals will appreciate that as well. Our ERs are really swelling in Western Massachusetts, it’s a real issue where people have nowhere to go to get care. It’s wonderful to see this space reopen.”

State Sen. Jake Oliveira (D-Ludlow) was also at the event to showcase how important urgent care centers are to people who may not have a primary care physician.

He said, “Ward 9 is part of my district and part of the city of Chicopee. I’m lucky enough to represent this area of Chicopee and it’s always nice to see an urgent care facility filling up a storefront as well inside this plaza. I think all of us see the need for urgent care facilities. I was without a primary care doctor for about three or four years after the pandemic, I finally found one but to fill the gap in between, we rely on urgent care a lot of times. If you have an illness, roll an ankle, if you do those things that all of us experience, urgent care fills that gap for so many families and if anyone has children you know you’re no stranger to an urgent care because it provides that opportunity to see direct care right away.”
