MONSON — On Feb. 26, the Monson Board of Health hosted its second community listening session on how the town should use funding from a recent opioid settlement at First Church of Monson.

MONSON — Parking and vehicle access became the primary point of contention as the Monson Planning Board presided over a public hearing at the Feb. 20 meeting where questions were raised concerning a site plan approval request to make use of a vacant structure as a child care facility.

MONSON — Scores of families turned out for a STEAM Night at Granite Valley School on Feb. 15. The STEAM Night was designed for students in grades 4-6 and their families.

MONSON — About 25 residents gathered at the Monson town offices to share their ideas for how to use the former Monson Developmental Center property.

MONSON — The Monson Public Schools Administration has developed multiple approaches to address the district’s increased chronic absenteeism rates, Superintendent Cheryl Clarke and Director of Curriculum and Instruction Katherine Watts announced at the Feb. 7 School Committee meeting.

MONSON — The Monson Free Library reopened on Feb. 8 after four months of being closed to the browsing public so that the windows could be replaced.

MONSON — At the Jan. 22 tri-board meeting, the Monson Select Board, Finance Committee and School Committee discussed the current budget projections for fiscal year 2024-25 and set financial goals for the coming year.

MONSON — Officials from the Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance met with state Sen. Ryan Fattman (R-Sutton), state Rep. Brian Ashe (D-Longmeadow) and Monson town officials to begin discussing the reuse of the Monson Developmental Center.

MONSON — After 30 years coaching girls soccer for Monson Public Schools, Eric Degnan was honored as a 2023 Coach of the Year recipient by the United Soccer Coaches on Jan. 12 in Anaheim, California.

MONSON — At the Jan. 17 School Committee meeting, Superintendent Cheryl Clarke provided a comprehensive update on the district’s efforts to tackle chronic absenteeism, enhance student support and improve technology infrastructure.
