HOLYOKE — For the second straight year, Holyoke Mayor Joshua Garcia and the Holyoke Biking and Pedestrian Committee led people from all over the community in a mayoral bike ride through the streets of Holyoke to celebrate National Bike Month.
Beginning outside of City Hall, over 40 people arrived on bikes and began a 45-minute ride through the city that ended at FAME Lounge. The sun was out, and Garcia led with enthusiasm for the community ride.
The bike ride featured a route that included sights of all the Beyond Walls Art Murals that have been added in the last year to increase downtown’s vibrancy. Beyond Walls is a nonprofit organization that works to bring art into public spaces.
The ride also served as a showcase to the city’s protected bike lanes and to encourage more people to utilize the bike ability of the city. ValleyBike Share is also soon returning to the city, giving residents options in transportation via bicycle.
