ENFIELD — The United Methodist Church of Enfield, UMC Enfield, is hosting a celebration on Saturday, Sept. 14, and it is open to all friends and neighbors in the Enfield community from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Refreshments will be served including hot dogs and activities will include craft making, playing lawn games, visiting with the community and celebrating.

September marks the church’s 60th year at the 41 Brainard Rd. address, the arrival of their new pastor, Reverend Kristin White, and the 195th year of a Methodist presence in Enfield.

“It’s pretty exciting,” said Lay Delegate Lorraine Creedon for the church/congregation and service member on Leadership Board and Finance team. “I’ve been a member for over 40 years, so I’ve seen the church through the good times and bad as we’ve grown and changed in the town of Enfield. It’s nice to have been a part of something for that long of a period of time.”

White, who started on July 1, said, “I’m excited — both to celebrate their long history in the community, but also to be part of a church that’s always looking forward to new ways to serve the community.”

She went on to say, “I’m excited to be part of a church that is such an active part of Enfield. I bring a passion for supporting the church and its connections to the community, spirituality and spiritual growth.”

The United Methodist Church of Enfield is a family of Christians striving to grow in faith, love and service. The Brainard Road building opened in 1964 and since then, the members of the United Methodist Church of Enfield have continued to be involved in the community. Their outreach programs help support local agencies that provide food, clothing and safety programs to their neighbors.

“The congregation is open and welcoming,” Creedon shared. “They love to do mission projects; serving the community through the Enfield Food Shelf or the homeless shelter or the soup kitchen. We’ve always been a part of the mission work in town and helping people in need.”

UMC Enfield would love to expand the role of the church to the community, continue doing more of their outreach work and build the congregation of the church.

Creedon said, “For me it has always been the consistency of the congregation, the support from all the members of the church and the ongoing ministry. Ministry work in the community is important to me — it is my center.”
