WESTFIELD — The Westfield Historical Commission is in the planning stages for local events to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution which officially began in April of 1775. The commission invites any local or regional community groups to participate in this venture.
“We will be discussing some possible activities at our next commission meeting which will be held on Monday, Jan. 27 in City Hall, room 201 at [6 p.m.] Your attendance is welcomed along with any suggestions that you may have,” said Kathleen Palmer, chair, adding people may contact her in advance at kathleen.palmer@cityofwestfield.org, and let her know if they will be attending the meeting.
Tickets have also gone on sale for the 14th Historic Ghost Talks, which will be performed at the First Congregational Church, 18 Broad St. on Jan. 30 and 31, with two shows on each day at 6 and 7:30 p.m.
This is the second year at the church for the troupe of reenactors portraying the lives of notable and sometimes infamous former residents of Westfield. While previously performed in the fall at the Old Burying Ground next to the characters’ gravestones, in the church the spotlight will illuminate the “ghost” speaking, whether up in the choir loft or in the pews. The audience will have a chance to ask questions and interact with each ghost before moving on to the next one.
This year’s Ghost Talks will also be observing the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, and all of the characters portrayed this year are related to or served in the Revolution.
The tickets are $10 each and are available for all four performances at the Westfield Athenaeum.
