WE ARE HOMETOWN NEWS.

HAMPDEN — The Hampden Senior Center, located at 104 Allen St., is offering new evening programs this fall.

“We are trying something new,” said Activities Coordinator Diane Marino. “We’ve heard that there are many interested people who are unable to attend our programs during the day. We listened, and are providing some classes, programs, and events in the evening to introduce them to our Senior Center. We invite all adults from surrounding areas to come in. It’s a good way to let people know what we offer here in our community.”

The programs on the schedule for September include a seminar on downsizing, an introduction to the very popular African Drumming class, a crystal bowl sound healing program, a five-week yoga class and three-week drawing class. In October, they will welcome the FBI back to give information about fraud and scams along with local author Sandy Howell who will talk about her book, “The Reluctant Spy.” A free dinner will be provided at this event. Also, in October, the center will have a U.S presidential history program and the annual Medicare Open Enrollment Program.

“My goal as the activities coordinator is to provide a special place for people to be involved, whether in activities, presentations or special events, that are not too far for them to travel to,” Marino said. “Again, we listened to everyone’s comments and what they would like to be involved with here. My job is to try to make that happen as much as I can with the limited space that we have.”

She continued, “We are trying very hard to expand our building because we do have so many classes, programs and events. We just want people to know how very important socialization is to everyone. We are very excited about our new Fall Calendar and hope that it will bring excitement to all who walk through our doors.”
