WE ARE HOMETOWN NEWS.

CHICOPEE — After postponing the original fireworks event on June 29 due to inclement weather, Chicopee has rescheduled the event for Friday, July 19 at Szot Park. The rain date will be Saturday, July 20, or Sunday, July 21, if needed.

The fireworks will commence at dusk and attendees are encouraged to arrive early to secure a good viewing spot. Food vendors will be on-site to provide refreshments throughout the evening.

Parks and Recreation Superintendent Ben Strepka said, “We are excited to bring this cherished tradition back to Chicopee. We invite everyone to join us for an evening of patriotic spirit and community camaraderie.”

The fireworks display is advertised to be a highlight of the summer, offering a festive way to celebrate America’s birthday with friends, family and the entire Chicopee community.

Many residents voiced their opinion stating that the original celebration should not be postponed in the first place with a low chance of rain that day. Other residents said the new date is too late into July for a fireworks celebration.

The Chicopee Mayor’s Office put out a response to explain the postponement and new fireworks display date.

It stated, “Regrettably, we’ve had to postpone the event. The decision was made after careful consultation with experts to prioritize everyone’s safety. While we understand the event is now a bit further out, unfortunately, the next available date from our fireworks vendor is July 19. This timing was beyond our control.”

The statement continued to say that Chicopee residents have always shown resilience in the face of challenges and the city is committed to making the best of the situation.

“Despite the setback, we have full confidence in the Chicopee community to come together and make this event truly spectacular. Thank you all for your understanding and patience. We look forward to a wonderful and memorable celebration together,” the statement concluded.
