WE ARE HOMETOWN NEWS.

ENFIELD — The Enfield Senior Center’s Holiday Craft Fair will take place on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 8 a.m. to noon. There will be unique gift items handmade by the Senior Center members, a quilt raffle, teacup raffles, a pancake breakfast by the Enfield Lions Club and more. All the money raised from the craft fair goes directly toward the center.

Crafter, member and volunteer Jean Rarus said, “We host this craft fair every year. I enjoy doing crafts and some of my quilts will be on display at the fair this year. I hope people come and be able to find some special Christmas gifts and items to decorate their home.”

Senior Center Program Coordinator Taylor Marino added, “One of the main purposes of this craft fair is to bring money back to support the center. We want people to see the facility itself, seeing all of what we have to offer and seeing how much work these craft groups put in year-round into this event.”

Established in 1978, the Enfield Senior Center provides social, educational, and recreational opportunities to enrich the mind, body, and spirit of older adults — 50 and up — in an open and accepting atmosphere.

Marino said, “We cater to a wide range of members, so we do our best to try and provide opportunities, activities and programs that can appease that wide range of individuals.”

Rarus moved to Enfield 10 years ago to help take care of her grandson and knew no one aside from her daughter and son-in-law. She stopped into the Enfield Senior Center and was given a tour. When Rarus got to their craft room, she met three women who made her feel welcomed and has been a member ever since.

“What I get from the center is the camaraderie of the people, making friends and being a part of a group that likes to do what I like do,” Rarus said. “The most fulfilling and rewarding part about doing the Holiday Craft Fair is being able to work with a group that enjoys crafting and creating handmade items just as much as I do. We work as a team and support one another to not only have items year-round, but to put on a successful craft fair.”

The Enfield Senior Center, 299 Elm St., is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
